Perry Farrell Throws Punch at Dave Navarro During Jane’s Addiction Concert, Causing Show to Abruptly End

Jane’s Addiction’s Boston concert on Friday came to an abrupt end after singer Perry Farrell threw a punch at guitarist Dave Navarro seemingly out of nowhere while the reunited band was playing “Ocean Size.”

Several social media users shared videos of the incident during the show, in which Farrell can be seen getting angry and shouting “Fuck you” at Navarro before hitting him with his shoulder.

The guitarist looked visibly confused when the singer kept pushing him and then threw a punch. “What the fuck?” Navarro said as crewmembers attempted to restrain Farrell and drag him off the stage while telling him to “Stop.” Navarro then took off his guitar strap and began walking away, putting an end to the concert.

Following the singer being taken off the stage, the rest of the band members approached Navarro onstage and comforted him while audience members applauded.

The Hollywood Reporter reached out to representatives for the band, which has not spoken publicly about the incident yet.

However, Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, took to her Instagram after the concert to share her side of the story in a lengthy post.

“Clearly there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members.. the magic that made the band so dynamic,” she wrote. “Well, the dynamite was lit. Perry got up in Dave’s face and body checked him.”

She continued, “Perry’s frustration had been mounting, night after night, he felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band. Perry had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat every night. But when the audience in the first row, started complaining up to Perry cussing at him that the band was planning too loud and that they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost it.”

Etty Lau Farrell explained that the band began singing “Ocean Size” before Farrell was ready and did the count-off, and he couldn’t hear passed the “boom and the vibration” of the instruments, causing him to begin screaming just to be heard.

Following Farrell’s attempt to punch Navarro, the singer’s wife stated that bassist Eric Avery put Farrell in a headlock and punched him in the stomach three times. She added that when a crewmember pulled Avery away, he walked to the front of the stage and apologized to the audience.

“Perry was a crazed beast for the next half an hour – he finally did not calm down, but did breakdown and cried and cried,” she continued in her lengthy caption. “Eric, well he either didn’t understand what descalation meant or took advantage of the situation and got in a few cheap shots on Perry.”

Jane’s Addiction’s reunion tour kicked off in August. Prior to the incident, the band was set to take the stage again on Sunday in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
