Growing up in a town without much to do meant that I rotated between going window-shopping with my friends and going to the movies as a teenager. I liked window-shopping the best, as you might assume based on what I currently do for a living. The shopping was my favorite because it meant I got to chat with the people I was browsing with, try items that I could only dream of wearing one day when I grew up, and end the day with a bite to eat. One of my favorite stores to stop by during those many excursions was Saks Fifth Avenue.
Saks had a more welcoming environment than a lot of the other major retailers. I didn’t feel forbidden from window-shopping just because of my age or lack of an American Express card.
