Cara Delevinge’s multi-million dollar home in L.A.’s Fryman Canyon Park neighborhood went up in flames in the early morning hours on Friday, and aerial footage shows a tragic scene of the aftermath.
The fire at the two-story home burned for nearly three hours early and took 94 firefighters more than two hours to put out, according to an alert shared today by the Los Angeles Fire Department. It was reported just before 4 a.m. at the 3000 block of North Oakdell Lane, and the blaze collapsed the home’s roof before being extinguished by 6:13 a.m. The LAFD also confirmed that one firefighter was transported to a hospital in fair condition and an occupant inside the home sustained minor smoke inhalation.
According to reports, Delevingne was in her native England at the time of the blaze as she’s playing Sally Bowles this week in the West End production of Cabaret at the Playhouse Theatre. She confirmed the fire on Instagram to her 42 million followers.
“My heart is broken today … I cannot believe it,” the supermodel-turned-actress shared on Instagram Stories on Friday morning along with a photo of her two cats leading many to believe that the felines were unaccounted for but they did, in fact, survive. “Life can change in a blink of an eye. So cherish what you have.” The next slide showed the late-night scene with the presence of multiple Los Angeles Fire Department trucks, ambulances and emergency response vehicles parked outside the home with red lights flashing.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the firefighters and people that have showed up to help,” Delevingne continued, before showing another photo of her beloved cats that survived the fire. “They are alive!! Thank you to the firefighters.”
The home was featured in a segment of Architectural Digest’s Open Door series, which described the palatial home as “exuberant and fantastically decorated” with the 31-year-old star saying, “My work requires me to put on many different hats and costumes. I love slipping into these various characters, so I wanted my home to reflect lots of different themes and moods.” It featured a David Lynch-inspired poker room, a shrine to David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, a games room, band room and pink room as well as an enviable closets, one featuring clothes and another strictly for her shoe collection.
