Jimmy Kimmel Calls Out Donald Trump at the Oscars: “Isn’t It Past Your Jail Time?”

Since Jimmy Kimmel had an “extra minute” towards the end of the 2024 Academy Awards Sunday, he decided to use his time to call out Donald Trump.

“I’m really proud of something and I was wondering if I could share it with you. I just got a review,” the host quipped. Kimmel proceeded to read a post that Trump shared on his social media platform Truth Social.

“Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars,” the post read. “His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be.”

The post continued, “Get rid of Kimmel and perhaps replace him with another washed up, but cheap, ABC “talent,” George Slopanopoulos. He would make everybody on stage look bigger, stronger, and more glamorous. Also a really bad politically correct show tonight, and for years – Disjointed, boring, and very unfair. Why don’t they just give the Oscars to those that deserve them. Maybe that way their audience and TV ratings will come back from the depths. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Once Kimmel wrapped up reading the social post, the audience erupted into laughter. “See if you can guess which former president just posted that?” the host asked. “Anyone? No? Well thank you, President Trump.”

“Thank you for watching. I’m surprised you’re still… isn’t it past your jail time?” Kimmel joked as the crowd started clapping and cheering. “He’s focused on the important stuff for sure.”

The former president is currently facing four criminal indictments in four different cities as he vies to reclaim the White House in the upcoming November election.

Earlier this week, Kimmel told The Hollywood Reporter that when it comes to content on his late night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Trump is his “muse.”

When asked if he was prepared for an abundance of Trump coverage heading into the 2024 election, he said, “You know what, I kind of love it because I know it bothers him and that really tickles me. And then occasionally we get confirmation of that and it inspires me. He is my muse.”

The 96th Academy Awards were held on March 10 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. Find the full winners list here, and check out the red carpet arrivals.
