Brittany Cartwright Files for Divorce From Jax Taylor

Nearly six months after announcing their split, The Valley star Brittany Cartwright has filed for divorce from Jax Taylor. 

TMZ was the first to break the news, reporting that Cartwright cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for her divorce from the Vanderpump Rules alum. The date of their separation is listed as Jan. 24. Cartwright petitioned to block both herself and Taylor from receiving spousal support. She is seeking primary legal and physical custody of their 3-year-old son Cruz, with Taylor allowed to visit the toddler. 

Last month, a representative for Taylor confirmed to TMZ that he was receiving in-patient treatment for his mental health following the former couple’s separation. The former Bravo star appeared to comment on his decision to receive treatment, sharing an Instagram Story of himself kissing Cruz on the cheek. He captioned it, “Trying to get better for you buddy, daddy loves you so much.” 

Cartwright first spoke about their separation on their joint podcast When Reality Hits in February. “Jax and I are taking time apart, and I made the decision to move into another home to take some space for the sake of my mental health,” she said.

Although filming for the first season of the Vanderpump Rules spinoff concluded in 2023, the Peacock show picked production back up to capture the breakup following the news of their split. The newly filmed scenes revealed the escalating tension between the couple, with Cartwright reaching a breaking point. 

“I feel like Jax is like sucking the life out of me and sucking away all my sparkle,” Cartwright said during a confessional following an argument in which Taylor accused her of drinking excessively — which her castmates denied. “How much more of this can I possibly take? I’m starting to realize all the little things that I have put up with for all nine years of my life.”
