Police Credit Jon Bon Jovi for Stopping Woman From Jumping Off Nashville Bridge

Jon Bon Jovi is being praised by police for helping stop a woman from jumping off a Nashville bridge Tuesday night.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department shared a surveillance video from the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge on YouTube Wednesday of the legendary singer and his team walking over to the seemingly distraught woman. She could be seen standing on the outside of the bridge’s railing, overlooking the Cumberland River.

In the more than 3-minute-long video (which has since been removed for violating YouTube’s Community Guidelines), Bon Jovi could be seen helping pull her back over the bridge’s railing at one point. According to police, he persuaded the woman to come off the ledge to safety. He then continued to speak with her before they hugged and eventually walked away from the bridge together.

“It takes all of us to help keep each other safe,” Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief John Drake wrote in a statement.

Local media outlet WSMV-TV reported that both the Nashville Fire Department and the Metro Nashville Police Department responded to the scene.

The Hollywood Reporter learned that the “Wanted Dead or Alive” singer and frontman for the band Bon Jovi was filming a music video on the bridge, which was open to the public, at the time of the incident, and went over to offer a hand in need.

Bon Jovi also has experience with helping people in crisis situations as his foundation, JBJ Soul Foundation, regularly assists individuals in crisis from hunger to homelessness, among other issues.

A rep for the singer did not offer any comments on the incident.
