Sweet sounds! Neil Diamond is one of the most successful songwriters of all time, with a career spanning over seven decades. The “America” crooner, born Jan. 24, 1941, was born in Brooklyn and started playing guitar after he was gifted one for his 16th birthday. He dropped out of college to write music and began his recording career after.
After modest success, Neil would hit it big in the late 60s and 70s following a move to LA. He found fame with his mellow, new sound, which was showcased in songs like “Sweet Caroline”, “Holly Holy”, “Cracklin’ Rosie”, and “Song Sung Blue”. His star would continue to rise in the coming decades with “Hello, Again”, “Heartlight” and more.
Through the years, Neil’s been dedicated to his live show. Known for his flashy costumes and high-energy performances, he’s toured up until 2018, when he announced he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Though he slowed down for the sake of his health, the crowd-pleaser still makes public appearances from time to time, like during the 2022 premiere of his musical A Beautiful Noise.
