Mick Jagger on Collaborating With Lady Gaga on New Single “Sweet Sounds of Heaven”: “A Great Experience”

The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger is sharing what it was like working with Lady Gaga on their newly released single “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.”

The track, which Jagger has previously described as gospel-flavored, is off the rock band’s upcoming album Hackney Diamonds and also features keys from Stevie Wonder.

The lead vocalist recently told Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe that the “Shallow” performer is a “really great singer” and that he’d “never heard her sing quite that style before, not exactly.”

As for creating the recording, Jagger said that did it “live in the room, and that was a great experience, her just coming in the room and her just opening up and seeing her bits and feeling her way and then getting more confident.”

He added, “And then we came back and then did some extra parts that we hadn’t done on the day and then we did some tidying up and we were just in the overdub room, really face-to-face, getting them really tight, the parts really tight, and then being slightly competitive and screaming.”

“Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” which was written by Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards, also served as a reunion for Gaga and the band as they previously performed together during The Rolling Stones’ 50 & Counting tour in 2012.

Hackney Diamonds, the band’s first album of original music in nearly two decades, is set to be released on Oct. 20. Jagger has described the album as a mix of rock songs, including some that are funky, as well as love ballads.

It also marks their first album since drummer Charlie Watts died in 2021 at the age of 80. Jagger said earlier this month that Watts performed on two tracks.
