Kerry Washington, Jane Fonda Set For A Day of Unreasonable Conversation Summit

Los Angeles will be engaging in A Day of Unreasonable Conversation for a fourth straight year, via a lineup packed with both stars and top political figures.

A Day of Unreasonable Conversation, put on by social impact agency Propper Daley, seeks to bring together people with different life experiences and viewpoints to share their stories with TV industry leaders, who hold the power to shape global conversations through their projects.

Kerry Washington, Jane Fonda, Kesha, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, American Fiction writer Cord Jefferson, WGA board member Adam Conover and Insecure showrunner Prentice Penny will take part in the event, held this year at the Getty Center on March 25. This year’s iteration will also be co-chaired by Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Washington’s production company Simpson Street, with The Hollywood Reporter returning as media partner.

“We have all seen the power that stories have to change how we think and act. Now more than ever, narrative content plays a critical role in how we perceive the world around us,” Washington, who runs Simpson Street along with her partner Pilar Savone, said in a statement. “Too often, that content lacks the nuance and complexity of our human reality. As the people who craft the stories that audiences are watching, I think we have a responsibility to grapple with those complexities in order to more accurately reflect our human truths.”

Savone added, “At Simpson Street, we’re committed to complicating narratives, enriching storytelling, and fostering a deeper understanding of the world around us. A Day of Unreasonable Conversation has helped us to continue to do that. This event is a unique opportunity for us to challenge our thinking, hear new perspectives and ultimately shape the new narratives coming out of the entertainment industry.”

Phoebe Robinson will serve as emcee for the event, kicking off a day of panels, performances and fireside chats about democracy, labor, criminal justice and pop culture. W. Kamau Bell, Gloria Calderón Kellett, Baratunde Thurston and Charli d’Amelio are also set to participate. Writers and producers who would like to request an invitation can do so here. Agency Invisible Hand will serve as creative directors and partners on the event for the third year in a row.

“We want everybody to come out of the room with a different version of current issues than they had when they arrived,” said Greg Propper, president of Propper Daley and founder of A Day of Unreasonable Conversation. “We hope that everyone has an ‘ah-ha’ moment that plants seeds of intellectual curiosity around navigating the tension of difficult topics.”
