Jeremy Renner says that, amid various therapy treatments following his New Year’s snow plow accident last January, the best therapy continues to be his mental resolve and resilience.
The Hawkeye star shared an update on his recovery Monday night, while recalling all the ways he’s spent almost a year trying to return to walking after being run over by a 14,300-pound snowcat at his Nevada home.
“I have been exploring EVERY type of therapy since Jan 14th,” he said in an Instagram post (below). “Everyday, countless hours of physical therapy, peptide injections, iv drips and pushes, stem cell and exosomes, red light / IR therapy, hyperbaric chamber 2.0 atmospheres, cold plunge, and the list goes on.”
While he’s used about every tool at his disposal to strengthen his body as he works through recovery, Renner said that ultimatley his “greatest therapy has been my mind and the will to be here and push to recover and be better…. Be exceptional.”
“I feel it’s my duty to do so,” he continued. “Not to squander my life being spared, but to give back to my family, friends, and all of you whom have empowered me to endure.”
Since January, Renner has provided almost regular social media updates as he’s moved through months of recovery. The actor has since returned to walking after his rib cage was rebuilt with metal, with metal plates in his face to support his eye socket, along with titanium rods in one of his legs. Back in April, the actor told ABC News‘ Diane Sawyer that his jaw was then being held together with rubber bands and screws.
In May, the Marvel star shared multiple videos and clips of the actor as he carried out various forms of physical therapy on his legs and body. “The body is miraculous,” he wrote in the caption of a May 5 Instagram video. “Even though I feel like the Tin Man, needing oil for all my new joints (hips, knees, ankles, tibia, etc ). Encouraged after this warm up to press on.”
The actor broke 30 bones in the accident at his Reno, Nevada home, which saw Renner attempt to divert his personal snowplow away from his nephew after it began to run towards Renner’s younger family member. According to a Washoe County Sheriff’s Department report, the emergency brake on the snowplow had not been properly applied as Renner exited the vehicle, resulting in its movement. Renner attempted to step up on the PistenBully’s track in order to divert or stop it before the machine pulled him under.
Renner was airlifted from his home before undergoing surgery for blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries. Since then, he’s launched his Disney+ series Rennervations, which saw him appear on the red carpet for the first time since his New Year’s day accident, and announced ownership of the Charleston-based Sweet Grass Vodka.
